Just curious how wide spread this noise is. I live in Applewood and since approx last summer have had a hum going on. Thought it was my ears, but had 'em checked and still hearing it. Then thought it could be the ring road. Thats one long stretch of contiguous pavement. Anyway...thats all I got. Peace and quiet would really be nice.

Hi Jason. We are hearing from people living in various areas in Calgary. Can you describe the hum you are hearing?

Describing a hum...not easy. I guess its a low hum, that jumps to a slightly higher note, then back again. I tried on my guitar to find a similar sound and its like a low E that flips up to higher A and then back again. Never any other notes, just the two. This fluctuates between the two constantly. If I try and hum the lowest possible note I can, thats almost the same note as the hum I hear. I've asked a few others and noone else seems to be picking up on it. I also went a few blocks away and still heard it although more faint. In my upstairs bedroom it seems to always be the loudest. I could record me humming to illustrate, although that sounds weird just typing it.

Hi Jason. It can be tough to describe a low frequency hum. We've recorded the one in Ranchlands at around 40 Hz. The way you are describing the hum is similar to other people's experiences, including my own. Did you try tracking down the noise? Or, has it been too elusive?
